Damodar City Labasa

Construction will soon commence on Damodar City Labasa, which is due to be the largest retail complex on Vanua Levu, Fiji’s second biggest island.

The Damodar Group of Companies announced that it has signed on 4R Construction Limited as its key contractor for the first phase of the $40 million development project.

Similar to the group’s landmark Damodar City Centre in the capital city of Suva, the Damodar City Labasa will include a multitude of shopping and recreational spaces.

“The project will be carried out in 3 phases, with Phase 1 covering the Supermarket wing, which includes 24 retail shops and 2 Food and beverage outlets,” it confirmed.

The group said the supermarket would be the largest in Vanua Levu, with the contract value for this first phase pegged at around $15 million.

“Phase 2 of the project is a cinema wing, which will be built to house three cinema screens and a large event lounge with a modern conference facility equipped with the latest technology and onsite catering. The three cinemas will have a combined seating capacity of 650.”

This second phase of the project will include an expansive food court, two department stores and retail spaces for an additional 18 stores.

The group confirmed that the third phase of development will be a hotel wing to house 40 rooms, a large multi-functional convention center, fine dining restaurants and executive bar and lounge facility.  
“When completed, the total investment for all three phases will be over $40M.The nominated sub-contractors for Phase 1 includes, Wormald for fire services, Bethel Electrical Ltd for electrical services, Engineered Design as the structural consultants, Tritech Engineers as the service consultants, Wood Jepsen as the surveyors and Scope Pacific as the TIA consultants LHM Architects is the architectural and principal consultant.”

 The Damodar Group said they were thankful for the opportunity to expand it Damodar City brand to Labasa, and hopes the project will bring progress and growth in the coming years to Vanua Levu through the provision of jobs and economic opportunities.

Damodar City Labasa will be located next to the town’s central business district, near the Qawa River.
