A COMMERCIAL building has been opened along Suva’s Gorrie St, following a partnership between the Fiji Commerce & Employer Federation (FCEF) and the Fiji Hotel Tourism Association (FHTA).

Named The Employers Hub, the property is part of a $2.4 million investment into the three-storey building, which houses the headquarters for both organizations, alongside available commercial rental space.

As Fiji’s national private sector organization, the FCEF is the country’s single largest employer body with a total workforce of 80,000 spanning solo consultants and the national airline.

While officiating at the building’s launch, President Jioji Konrote lauded the initiative and called for more private sector leads, highlighting that Fiji needed a sustained GDP growth of around five per cent to create jobs for local school leavers.

“I am encouraging the private sector to play a lead role. This will not only equate to more jobs, but also improve living standards, improve condition of work – including pay – and encourage greater productivity, resulting in improved profit margins.”

President Konrote noted that through corporate social responsibility, the private sector could complement Government’s social policy initiatives to reach out to marginalized sectors and ensure inclusive growth.
